A devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey and northern Syria on Monday morning, causing widespread destruction and leaving hundreds of people trapped under rubble. The death toll has reached over 650 and is expected to rise as rescue workers continue to search for survivors.
The earthquake has caused widespread damage to buildings, homes, and infrastructure and an “increased need for trauma care” in the wake of the earthquake leaving many communities struggling to access basic necessities like food, water, and shelter.

Turkey has declared a fourth level alert state. The “level 4” alarm condition includes an international call for help. For those of you around the world reading this message… Our people who were under the rubble of the earthquake in my country need your help to be saved.

The humanitarian crisis has been compounded by the already complex situation where ongoing conflict has made it difficult for aid organisations to provide assistance.
